An Update from Gayle from Louisiana
Yesterday I went to New Orleans under escort from ATF people to get needed medicall supplies and meet with FEMA and The Red Cross and ended up at the Joint of Command (JOC) with the 82nd airborne at the airport. Things are still very disjointed. To many chains of commands but most just want to help and everyone is working towards that end. They are trying to get the last of the people out of New Orleans today. 1,000 more came thru the airport rescue via helicopter while we were there. The hospitals are all closed there and have displaced to outlying areas. There are still towns that have seen no help whatsoever as the roads are impassable.
Chalmette was checked yesterday. Every single person in the nursing home was dead. With no one to care for them over the past week. It is a slow process to get help to people and there are still areas that are unreachable.
Doug and Janet Hines along with the church here are managing resources and organizing volunteers. Tim is our logistics coordinator and has been resourcing to provide for our needs. We have trucks arriving daily.
The church has electricity but we still do not in the town and place we are staying.
We are setting up for people to sleep here at the building. We need people with trucks and trailers and a pillow and sleeping bag to come and help distribute needed supplies. We need chain saws and people that know how to remove debris and get to the people.
I have medical supplies coming. Keep your prayers up for those who have no help of comfort. Pray for stength and widsom for those of us that are trying to help.
We plan to start bringing in medical teams on Monday. My phone works intermittently. 321-403-9292. Tim's cell is 407-575-0709. (when we have service.)
God Bless,
Gayle Davidson
