A Visit to San Miguel

Saturday was really fun for us four girls, Gayle, Jennifer, Katie, and myself. While Tim was in Santa Ana getting ready for the dedication of houses, we went to San Miguel to visit some friends. Our first stop was to see Jonathan. For those of you who don't know Jonathan, he was the little guy I wrote about earlier who fell out of a tall tree and is in a body cast for the next four months. He has been laying in the same bed for the last 4 weeks. His mom said she was only rotating him but hadn't gotten him up because she was worried that it would hurt him. After we had visited for a little while, Gayle took his stitches out of his head. She couldn't believe how clean the stitches looked considering they should have been taken out long before. Gayle told him that he really needed to be up walking and getting out of the bed everyday. He was a little weary of getting up and said the cast was too heavy to move. We helped him walk to the door and told him not to try without his mom being there to help. It kills me that Jonathan has to be bedridden for four months. He is such a great kid. I know it is driving him crazy not being able to play outside with his circle of buddies. Mark, Marvin says hello. He asks about you everytime I see him.

Our next stop was Oneida's house. Her son, Gustavo, had previously been diagnosed with Malaria so Gayle wanted to check on him while we were up there. One of the Torch groups this summer rebuilt her home due to the flooding. Her family was doing well.

The last stop was to the infant twins home who were born premature this summer. Gayle's friend, Carla got very attached to the babies who were only 2 lbs. each. She gave them both a medical check up and made sure they had plenty of food and formula before we left. The mother was very grateful. Gayle and I gave her a big hug goodbye and ended with a prayer. It is amazing how good the babies looked for being so tiny before. The trip back down the mountain was much easier than the trip up. If I walked that much everyday, I would either die of a heat stroke or be in great shape. hahaa......
