Inter-Personal Skills Class
Wow! What an amazing concept! I think we have finally found what we’ve been looking for. One of the things that we have decided through the Mi Esperanza program that is needed most of all here in Honduras is an inter-personal skills class. So that people can actually learn what it means to have character, how to get a job, to keep a job, and how to handle themselves in a manner that is ethically correct in the business world. What we have done is start a two-week class, an intensive training course that lasts four hours a day, Monday thru Friday. This class will teach women how to handle themselves. To develop their own personal skills and what it means to be responsible and have integrity. This week has been absolutely amazing. We have had four classes so far and the women are on fire. It is like you have given them a flashlight in a world of darkness. They’re taking notes like crazy and enjoying the class very much. They are laughing and finding out things about themselves that they never knew before. They are realizing that they have abilities that are marketable. They are also learning what character is and with that character, they can advance their lives and see their potential rise. They can’t wait to the end of the class so they can go and put their abilities to the test. In this class, some of them have stood up in front of people for the first time in their lives and spoke with confidence. And as we know, public speaking is the largest fear in the world so they are overcoming their fears. They are also learning about interviews. We are staging mock interviews so they can be prepared to interview for jobs and have the confidence they need. A young lady, from Louisiana, named Christina is helping me with this class along with Leo Silva who is our Mi Esperanza coordinator. The class has been very productive. The women are becoming bold, looking one another in the eye, being more positive, and having more confidence in themselves. We have covered how they need to talk, dress, and communicate when getting a job. We have also covered how to write a resume, develop a business plan, and budget money for their families. We have really enjoyed this week watching the smiles on their faces and it will be interesting to see how they use their new knowledge in the near future. God is Good!
